Walking Cricket
Each week a group of between 12-16 devotees play a competitive but more sedate version of the game we all love. It’s regular participants, both male and female, range from mid-forties to ninety, proving age is not a barrier.
In pairs, using plastic bats and a softball, batters score as many runs as possible (or should that be walks!) in their four overs to help their team post a good score for the others to chase (walking!) Bowling can be either overarm or underarm.
The sessions are fully inclusive, open to everyone of all abilities. Teams are selected each week to provide an as even a contest as possible. Anyone over the age of 18 is able to join in.

BOB CARTER CENTRE THURSDAY MORNING BADMINTON GROUP
Thursday mornings 10.00 - 12.00 noon
This group was originally started in September 2007 by Broadland District Council (BDC) as an "Over 50's Keep Fit and Active" group for a period of 12 months. After the 12 months it was continued by BDC for a further 6 months due to its popularity.
After funding was withdrawn by BDC the group was continued by two Badminton England Registered Qualified Coaches, but the over 50's stipulation was dropped, with badminton coaching given, free of charge when requested, which carried on until the group ceased in March 2020 due to government Covid restrictions.
The group was restarted in May 2021 after the Covid pandemic by one of the Badminton England Registered Qualified Coaches, on a voluntary basis and the group has continued playing with successful numbers each week.
We are a friendly group who play for fun and exercise and the games are organised for you on a, hopefully, level basis with some competitive games thrown in for good measure, requested players in games are always welcome.
Our current youngest regular player is early 50's and our oldest lady is mid 90's, with some late 80 year old gentleman regularly playing. We have around 30 players "on the books" and our average number playing is around 20 each week.
We operate on a "pay as you play" basis costing £5 for each player for two hours, 10:00 am till 12:00 noon on Thursday mornings, hiring the hall which consists of 4 courts.
As the Coach/Organiser works on a voluntary basis, we operate a non profit system, which possibly, we are the only group in the country run on this basis, where a "payout" is made after hall fees and shuttlecock expenses, proportionally to every player, who has attended 8 weeks or more in the set half year period.
We are now in a position to offer a few places for players to join us on a Thursday morning and if you would like any further information please contact me on the number/s below.
